About us
The Charity sector in Harrow are currently pulling together and being extremely creative in their ability to continue to support children and young people during the Covid-19 crisis.
Higher numbers of both children and young people will need access to a range of activities and support services.
As you know, even without the crisis, young people involve themselves in youth violence and other anti-social behaviours and without projects and professional support we could see these issues escalate due to boredom, potentially resulting in looting and riots. We also need to compound this with food poverty, tensions due to being in a national lockdown and isolation giving young people little space to cope and recharge.
Families will have struggled to deal with children not being at school, parents will be extremely concerned over not being able to earn money to feed their family.
Children and young people will be desperate to see their friends, engage in activities, be free to enjoy themselves and get back to ‘normality’.
Young Harrow Foundation are raising funds to offer the following support:
Relief of Food Poverty: ensuring those children and families most in need, feeding children who are used to receiving free school dinners (often their only hot meal each day) to continue to be fed and have access to free and vital food and toiletry supplies.
Cyber Support: charities will have to find new ways of working, of engaging with their beneficiaries and providing on-line services. Working remotely to support vulnerable young people is essential as we will see escalating issues around mental health, self-harm, suicide and living with domestic violence.
Provision of summer holiday activities: with schools closed for a longer period there will be significantly higher numbers of children and young people in need of activities. We need to ensure local charities have enough staff and space in which to deliver safely with an increased number of participants.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Dan Burke
